From the 14th to the 18th of October all fourth graders had the opportunity to go to London, which is not only the capital city of England and the United Kingdom but is also known for its beauty and all the different cultures that meet there. There are plenty of beautiful sights to visit in London. But let’s start at the very beginning of our journey!
On the first day of our trip, after we brought our luggage to our rooms, we had a look at the stunning sights in London. From the airport to our hostel and almost around the whole city we went by Tube, the famous London underground. The Tower Bridge was not the only famous building we were fascinated by, the Big Ben also left us all with our mouths wide open. In fact, the tower itself is not called Big Ben but the bell that is situated behind the surface of the Elizabeth Tower (the actual name of the building) is. When the sightseeing tour was over, we got back to the hostel, where we stayed all week, and went to bed after the exhausting day.
The second day of our short vacation was also a day worth keeping in mind. After we had breakfast, we went to the popular wax figure museum Madame Tussauds and were able to take selfies with famous celebrities like Taylor Swift or Timothee Chalamet (even though they are made of wax, the pictures look real anyway). Madame Tussauds is certainly one of the coolest attractions to go to as a tourist in London. In the afternoon we went to Horizon 22 and enjoyed the view - a really cool experience but it might not be the best place to go to for those who are afraid of heights. In the evening, we went to the London Eye, London´s most famous Ferris wheel, and enjoyed another view over the city.
The third day we went to the Changing of the Guard and walked through half of London to get there. Unfortunately, the king wasn’t home – the not existing white flag at the Buckingham Palace told us. A police officer seemed to really enjoy our yellow hats and couldn’t help trying one on (I think he wanted to be a minion too). Afterwards we went to the London Bridge Experience which made us all aware of what being scared to death really means. In the evening, we went to the musical „The Lion King“, it was an amazing experience!
On the fourth day of our trip to London we had breakfast at the hostel again, which included croissants, baked beans, sausages, (I still don’t get why people have something like that for breakfast), and tea (a myth says that British people drink their tea with milk). After that we went to London Dungeon, another sight people said would frighten us until we are traumatized (but let’s be honest, it wasn’t that scary). After that, we went shopping, some of us spent more money than others. In the afternoon, we went to the Imperial War Museum which taught us about the first and the second World War. It was really interesting (especially for those who enjoy history). Then we had lunch. British people like eating fish and chips (a British dish everybody should try at least once when they get to London). In the meantime, around 20 people had a fantastic tour around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The guide told us that the football pitch can be transformed into a concert floor, a festival area, or an NFL field. After that some of us had an Uber boat tour which showed us the capital city of England in more detail. Seeing this beautiful place at night was a thing that can’t be described in words. After that, the fourth day was over and with that our trip to London. Overall, we all had a really great week that we will probably never forget.
