From the third to the seventh of November, all fourth graders, who had Advanced English last year, had the opportunity to go to London, England’s capital city. London is known for its history, culture and lifestyle. In order for the teachers to see us in the busy city all the time, the Sparkasse sponsored blue caps for all the pupils.
On the first day after we brought the luggage to our room, we took the world-famous underground (the tube) to Piccadilly Circus. We had some time to spend in the city. Some of us went to Chinatown, others went shopping. After an exhausting day we took the tube back to our hotel and went to bed.
On the second day after waking up we had breakfast. There were two options you could choose from every day: English breakfast or toast with Nutella or jam. Afterwards we went to free museums like the Natural History Museum, Science Museum, or the Imperial War Museum. In the afternoon we went to the popular wax figure museum “Madame Tussauds”. There were a lot of celebrities like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, or Rihanna. The figures look like real humans which is crazy. In the evening some went to the London Eye, a ferries wheel with a mind-blowing view.
On Wednesday morning we saw the Changing of the Guards. Then we had a walk through the city. There were a lot of cute squirrels there. In the afternoon some went to the Tower of London, while the others were at the London Dungeon. We then had a boat tour; you were able to see the Elizabeth tower and a lot of bridges. In the evening, we were able to get tickets for a football game of Southampton vs Queens Park Rangers. Non soccer fans went to a pub.
On Thursday morning some went to Saint Paul’s Cathedral while some went to the Emirates Stadium. Saint Paul’s Cathedral is stunning; you can admire the magnificent dome. There are three galleries you can visit while on your way to the top: “whisper gallery (if you whisper against the wall, you can hear it on the other side), stone gallery (a pretty view over the city) and golden gallery (the highest point offering a breathtaking view all over London - a great picture spot). In the afternoon we could choose from shopping one last time in either Oxford Street or Piccadilly Circus or going to Horizon 22 for those who hadn’t already been there. Afterwards we had some time to get ready for the musical. We watched “Wicked”. It was amazing, all actors did a great job.
After an exhausting but beautiful time, we had to say bye bye to London
